The last eight games scheduled in Matchday 5 brought a few goals, and not many surprises.

The only unexpected result was recorded in Manchester, where the team coached by Sir Alex Ferguson lost against the last positioned team in group B, Beşiktaş Istanbul. Bordeaux qualified for the first knockout round, after having passed Juventus with a score of 2-0, while Bayern Munich has paid the debt and beat Maccabi Haifa 1-0. The decisive match , between the “Old Lady” and the team of Bavaria will give the second qualified team from group A.

In the other match scheduled in group B, Serbian Krasic has struck again and brought victory
of CSKA Moscow in front of VfL Wolfsburg. Group C failed to record this evening any surprise. Real Madrid has won a short victory with 1-0 against the Swiss from FC Zurich, while AC Milan and Marseille have canceled each other in a match which ended undecided, with the score 1-1 .

Yesterday evening, four teams have secured Champions League qualification for the next phase the first knockout round. Bordeaux, Chelsea, Porto and Manchester have obtained the tickets for the fourth phase of Champions League. Today another 3 teams have qualified for the next CL round : Olympique Lyon, Sevilla FC and Arsenal FC.

Bordeaux is already qualified in the spring European Champions League after they defeated Bayern 2-0 last night.The Bavarians currently occupy 3rd place with four points, and can miss the first two places, if Juventus gets 3 points in the last two games.

Arsenal already qualified though not known in what position. Olympiakos and Standard are fighting for the second position, while AZ Alkmaar can only catch than European League.

Recognized as a strict coach, Pellegrini does not forget nor forgive easily. The incident with Guti, which threw the shirt very angry in front of the trainer during the first training, keeps the spanish rebel still on the black list. The spanish midfielder remained in Madrid in the company of Cristiano Ronaldo, still injured, and was not included in the group. The reason is only disciplinary, Guti having no more ankle problem.
Ronaldinho seems to be revived in the last two weeks. The match in Madrid was the return of the brazilian player. Real fans ridiculized “Dinho” always calling him “fat”. Since then “Dinho” is quite another person. He offers brilliant assists, he did it twice Saturday against Parma, and have more autonomy in the game, helped by the sacrifice made by Seedorf. “I will show them who`s fat” and promised to score, warned the brazilian, supported by Leonardo: “Now he comes and helps side defenders and is among the best 10 players in the world”.

This evening starts Matchday 3 of Europe League. One of the interesting matches is in Glasgow where Celtic meets SV Hamburg. Both teams have the European Cup record, but none of them managed to triumph in the UEFA Cup – predecessor League Europe – even if the Germans won the Cup of Cups.

If Dinamo Bucharest and Steaua are struggling with the “giants” from Istanbul, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, CFR Cluj goes to Czech Republic to face Sparta Prague, while FC Timisoara are seeking the first win in their European Leagues history on their own land, in front of Anderlecht, a team with success in UEFA Cup.
Another very expected game is on the Stadio Olimpico, where Lazio Roma faces Valencia, a very known Spanish team that had a weak start in the Spanish Primera Divison after eight rounds and is seeking salvation in Europe.

Steaua Bucharest – the only team that has not received goals in the group stage – will try to close the gate in this evening’s against Fenerbahce . However, “the Red-blue” are among other teams – FC Timisoara, Levski Sofia and Sheriff Tiraspol – in search of their first goal in the competition group stage.

Sporting Lisbon could make a big step towards qualification if defeats in Latvia, Ventspils, while Werder Bremen, Shakhtar Donetsk FC Salzburg can accumulate also nine points after three rounds if they win their matches this evening.

Sevilla goes to Stuttgart determined to win all 3 points awarded for the victory, a result that would open the doors to the next stage of the competition.

Alarming situation for Stuttgart in Bundesliga, where after 9 rounds they gained 8 points, a tie with Bochum, team located in the retrogradation zone, and a new failure in the  weekend at home, in front of Schalke, score 1-2. Things aren`t much better in Champions League, the germans accumulating only two points in the matches with Rangers FC and Unirea Urziceni .

Sevilla lost the duel with Deportivo, but the team showed in this season start that  they have the strength to fight with the best teams in Primera Division. In Champions League perfect evolutions and two clear wins, 2-0 with Unirea Urziceni  and 4-1  on Ibrox, with Rangers.

The hosts will not count in this match on Lanig, but the good news comes from Hleb, who is ready to play in the first minute. Sevilla left  the injured players  Palop, Konko and Renato in Spain.

Barcelona leads Group F, a position which can be secured with a success against Rubin Kazan. . Russian Champions come to Camp Nou, but only as sparring partner, as equal in the game with Inter, Rubin convinced that they can repeat the good progress in the game.
